UCLA and Other Researchers Unveil 185-Milligram Flying Robot
In a study published Sept. 30 in the U.S. journal Science Robotics, researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles; the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and the University of California, Davis, demonstrated an 185-milligram, all-polymer micro flying robot.
What happened
The research team unveiled a micro flying robot that combines an actuator made from a polymer that bends in an electric field with flexible wings. Reports said that after the robot was crushed under a weight of about 2.1 kilograms, its wings returned to their original shape and it flew again when the weight was removed.
