Monumental Sports & Entertainment unveils vision for new Capital One Arena
Monumental Sports & Entertainment announced plans to transform Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, D.C.
What happened
Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) and Capital One announced plans on August 11, 2026, to transform Capital One Arena. They signed a 20-year naming rights extension, and the project is scheduled for completion before the 2027-28 NBA and NHL seasons.
Why it matters
Renderings showing the arena’s new exterior and spectator routes were released before renovations are complete. Renovated areas at the District and Terrace levels are scheduled to open ahead of the 2027 season. For visitors, expanded entrances, relocated concessions and gathering areas, and a relocated entrance for cardholders will change how they move through the venue for games and performances.
